Ian is a PhD student in the Schaaf/SPECTRALMASS laboratory at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. The lab addresses ecological questions and through the integration of remote sensing resources with traditional field techniques and emerging modelling approaches. Professor Crystal Schaaf is a member of the science teams for the LandSat, MODIS and VIIRS satellites, therefore much of the lab’s work involves utilizing these resources to observe ecological states and change, as well as validating observations from these and other satellite-borne sensors. Ian is currently focusing on coastal ecosystems, particularly salt marshes, investigating observable structural features that may reflect vulnerability to dynamic atmospheric and ocean conditions.
