Bio-Engineer and Microbiologist.
I got a Master degree in Environmental Science from Wageningen University (the Netherlands) in 2006; a PhD degree in Applied Biological Sciences from Ghent University (Belgium) in 2011. Afterwards I joined in Laboratory of Microbial Oceanography (LMO) in Shanghai Jiao Tong University as an assistant professor. For my research I am trying to make a link between Exploration with Experimentation, meaning developing equipment to do in situ monitoring, sampling and in vitro simulation of biogeochemical processes in extreme environments, e.g. in deep sea and under ice sheets, upon one integrated platform. As a microbiologist, I care about the ecology in extreme environments, especially the adaptation strategy of microorganisms to the environment with low bio-available energy.
I have been fascinated by theoretical physics since reading a biography of Erwin Schrödinger but I’d rather to keep that as a playground for my imagination. Travelling, cooking, reading and playing card games are some of my favorite activities.
